vintage crochet patterns

If you know how to crochet, baby blanket gifts make for great gifts to any new parent. If you don't know anything about how to crochet, there are some things that are good to know.

It's only hard if you think it is, so you have to change your thinking by looking at the basics of crochet. If you don't want to end up with your sleeves a different shade to your body, make sure all of the batch numbers on the balls you buy are the same. Crochet means hook in French and this is the name given to the craft amongst French, Italians and Spanish speakers.

In selecting your yarn, there are five basic types: baby/fingering, sportweight/baby, worsted weight, chunky and bulky. There are a large variety of patterns and stitches. When you purchase a crochet book, or patterns, you'll find the abbreviations and symbols will be explained at the beginning.

So if you are looking for the perfect gift, look no further than crochet. Also keep an eye out for how-to kits.
